Character Profile
It’s funny what people will convince themselves of when left with no other choice. Leona used to continuously pester me about how unhealthy it is to prefer the company of robots to other people. I wonder how she feels now that her bodyguard is more machine than man. I bet it really grinds her gears…
Ha, I crack myself up sometimes. To be perfectly honest, I couldn’t stand him before. The guy used to talk way too much, even for me. Between his palling around with Nine (how could anyone even stand that guy?) and his not-so-secret relationship with Leona, it always seemed like he didn’t get what we were doing here. I guess damn near dying gave him some perspective. Nine accused me of overwriting his personality; toying with his consciousness or something when I built his new body, but even I can’t take credit for how efficient he’s become.
They argue all the time about what he "used to be". As if his new reserved disposition means that he doesn't mind it. They’re so concerned about "protecting him" that they’re not giving him enough credit. With Nine’s pattern recognition, you’d think that he’d at least realize that Giyet only ever resorts to deadly force when their lives are in danger. Giyet Han might be the best protector the Underground Alliance will ever have, and they're too busy treating him like a fragile appliance to realize it. - Advent III, Codename: Misfit
Card Mechanics
This week’s Advent, Giyet Han, is something different than we’ve seen so far. Up until now, each Advent has possessed a single Resource type. Giyet Han, however, can count for one of two Resource types: Rage or Psionic Energy! While you are familiar with Rage from Misfit’s week, the latter is a new Resource type we haven’t previewed until now, and it’s represented by the color purple. When Giyet Han is exhausted as a Resource, that Resource may count as either Rage or Psionic Energy, giving Giyet Han decks the ability to easily play two different Resource types!
Giyet’s abilities reflect the strengths of both Resource types. Rage is all about being aggressive and attacking with Armada. Whenever you destroy an Armada with an attack, you may choose to draw a card or gain Morale. After building up your hand and your Morale, you will likely have more than plenty of each to use one of Giyet’s two cost effects. One requires discarding two cards from your hand and paying one Rage to gain an extra attack. You can activate the other by paying Morale and one Psionic Energy to shift any of your Armada cards one space. (One of Psionic Energy’s strengths is the ability to manipulate the Battleground by moving Armada.)
So by using Giyet Han as your Advent, you gain access to strengths from two different Resource types along with an Advent built to utilize these very strengths. With intelligent use of Giyet’s abilities, no amount of defense or mobility should be able to stop you from terminating a target with extreme prejudice. Throughout this week, we will preview other dual-color cards along with some Psionic Energy cards, since we have yet to preview any. Stay tuned!
