Hello guys, I played Advent Saga at Evo 2014 and enjoyed it! I started thinking about the digital version and how to streamline the motions of the game by using the keyboard for input instead of the mouse. This might be intensive, but if the commands are logical then it would be a great advanced method to play faster once, alternate to mouse input. I was thinking about how to exhaust for resources, but then I thought that the user could just press X then card number, error parse input once 2 characters are taken without needing to press enter, then that numbered resource taps. Resources could be numbered increasingly starting with the first resource. Since the resources can tap for multiple colors each, perhaps the next input could be a wheel for possible mana taps, or a different hotkey.
The game needs easy access to reading all the cards due to the complex effects and strategies. But there are advantages to having harder inputs such as using icons to represent resource pile, discard, and all the rest. Once familiar, more screen space can be used to view the field, armory, and advents so that cards in play are visible all the time.
What if you could play the digital game with hot keys instead of mouse. Then there could be keys for different views of hand, field, resources including advent, discard, decommission, and opponents always visible piles. By overlaying these piles zoomed in so that all cards are readable (scrollable lands similar look to dota2 hero selection), the game play can be simulated. It would take a little getting used to, but would play faster after learning how to play with keys on the keyboard mapped for desirable game functions. This could also serve as an alternate method of tapping for mana.
I played the digital version at Evo for a bit but found it very mouse heavy and the screen was organized but everything was too small to read and the game took too long on a mouse and click style because there was a need for strategy. I wondered about how to tap for mana, but it dawned on me that the keyboard can be used for much faster inputs than the mouse and can keep the tempo of the game.
To prove the speed of hotkeys, think of the counterstrike buy menu, and the speed of using hotkeys to buy instead of the mouse.
Hope you guys have a fun day on day 3 at Evo. Also, I Googled around a bit and found that the wii u supports unity so that's cool too.
